Our Privacy and Security Commitments is a Social Enterprise Startup, and we rely on the trust and support of our Champions to grow and operate. We are committed to protecting your privacy, ensuring your security, being fully clear and open about how we use or collect your data, and making sure that your data is never shared without your knowledge. We believe that our users should have clear rights, so your time on will be guarded by these specific Privacy and Security Commitments:

Commitment 1: We will always strive to use the best methods of encryption and security protocols to protect your sensitive information, and work to stay ahead of industry wide security measures.

Commitment 2: Your email address, or the email addresses of your connections will never be used without your permission. If you choose to invite your friends through our system, each invite will require your specific action. We will never use those emails to spam your friends without your permission.

Commitment 3: You will always have the option to control which messages and notifications you receive from, and you will always have the option to not receive anything. The only exception being legal notifications that we may be required to send to you by State or Federal law.

Commitment 4: We will never read any messages that your may send through the website in order to create targeted advertisements for you. Your messages are private, and will only be seen by you and whoever you want to see them.

Commitment 5: If you choose to share and record any location or name information on our website, to be visible to other users or for the purposes of accessing specific website content, this information will never be shared with any 3rd Party without your knowledge.

Commitment 6: You will never need to contact us or “opt in” to be covered by the full scope of our privacy and security measures. If you use our website, you are included. Your privacy is a right, not a bonus feature.

Commitment 7: You will be notified when your user data may be used in a way that is not covered by this Privacy Policy, or shared with our partners, and you will have the option to opt out or close your account.

What information may be collected when you use the website?

User Provided Information

We store information that you can voluntarily choose to share with us when using the website, or specific sections of the website. This includes information such as:

  • Personal information such as your email address, real or fictitious name, location, photo, age, Cause preferences, as well as content displayed on your user profile, invites and forum posts. (Your private messages will be stored but always remain private.)
  • Identifying contact information of your connections, who you may have chosen to invite to a Duel, or to become a new CharityWars Champion.
  • Other information you may voluntarily submit to us, including through posted messages, forum comments, invites to other users and non-users, upload information, or when you communicate with us or take advantage of promotions, respond to surveys, or subscribe to newsletters or other mailing lists.
  • Our payment processor and banking partner may collect the information that you input in order to verify your age, location or other details for compliance or payment processing purposes. This may include, for instance, personal information, the last 4 digits of your social security number, or other identifying details about yourself. This information will be used solely for the purpose of legal compliance, fraud detection and compliance with our policies, which may include age or geographic restrictions.
  • Depending on your chosen transaction method, and the type of purchase made, your identifying billing information, like your name and address, may be stored to allow for refunds to your address and prevent fraud. For Paypal transactions, the email address used in the transaction may be stored for refunds via Paypal. To allow you to identify your Payment Profile for quick transactions, we may also store the expiration date of your credit card, the type of card (Visa, Dicover, etc), and the last 4 digits of your card. (The full number, and the CVV will always remain only with the bank.)

Cookies and Other Passively Collected Information:

  • When you use the Service through a website we offer, we or our service providers may send one or more cookies - small files - to your computer, which may enable us or others to uniquely identify your browser. Log File Information:

  • When you use CharityWars, our servers may automatically record certain information that your device sends whenever you visit a website and use mobile applications (if you offer a mobile application). These server logs may include information such as your web or app request, Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser type, browser language, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform type, number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed and the order of those pages, the amount of time spent on particular pages, the date and time of your request, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
  • If we ever offer for download a mobile app, we also may collect mobile device information like operating system and hardware type, numbers or codes that are unique to your particular device, device state information, default device language, the location of your device, app usage information, and other unique mobile device identifiers, such as IDFAs, and Android Advertising IDs.

How may use your collected information?

Provision of Services and Security

Your personal information will be used to operate, maintain, and provide to you the features and functionality of the website, including but not limited to the following: (a) providing you with our services of education and gameplay; (b) processing and responding to inquiries; (c) alerting you to new service features, special events, products and services, or certain third-party products or services in which we think you will be interested; and (d) enforcing the legal terms that govern your use of the service as described in the Terms of Service.

We may use cookies, log file information and mobile app information for purposes such as:

  • monitoring for or prevent fraud, or blocking inappropriate access to the website;
  • remembering information so that you will not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you visit CharityWars, and helping users navigate and communicate with the Service;

  • sending advertisements (including display media) to you when you visit our website or other websites, and monitoring the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns;
  • monitoring aggregate metrics such as total number of visitors, pages viewed and;

Part of your visibility as a participating Champion

Any information you provide on your profile page may be publicly visible. It may include, for instance, your username, the date you became a Champion, your rankings, your badges, the Causes you supported and earned Karma for, and (if you’ve uploaded one) your profile picture.

When you join a Duel, you will have the choice to use your personal name instead of your username and this may be visible to other Users and Non-Users who can access the Duel's information page. Users and Non-Users may be also to see the Cause you are currently supporting, and a link to your profile page. And by participating in CharityWars Duels and gameplay you are accepting any risk that may be connected to the sharing of this infomation.

Betterment of the Non-Profit Sector, Research and Education

Your gameplay, site activities, and preferences may be anonymized or aggregated for the purpose of improving the quality and design of and to create new features, promotions, functionality, and services, such as by storing, tracking, and analyzing User preferences and trends. As well as shared with partner entities that are helping us improve the website or the quality of our Service.

This anonymous data, and aggregated user trends may also be used for educational purposes of the non-profit, charity and political sectors. Shared with educational and civic institutions, and used to enhance research about such subjects as gamification, political trends, charitable giving, market theory, political science, and statistics. We may use your information to contact you for administrative, game play related, or promotional purposes, as well as to notify you of significant changes in the Service of This anonymous and/or aggregated data does not identify you, and we may use and disclose such information without limitation for academic research and related educational purposes.

General Uses and Other Situations

CharityWars subsidiaries, affiliated companies, agents, or other businesses or persons that help us provide and operate the website and provide services may have authorized access to parts of your information (for example an email client like MailChimp having access to your email) for the purpose of processing and using such information on our behalf.

However we may only share your personal information with third parties for their commercial or marketing use with your consent, or as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in or opt-out. We may also disclose personally identifiable information in response to your requests for customer service.
